"The US patent has just expired on Lipitor, the best-selling drug of all time, as the first generic versions go on sale, marking the end of a brand that has dominated the drug industry, lowered the cholesterol of tens of millions of patients, and generated $10.7 billion last year in annual sales. But drug manufacturer Pfizer, dependent on Lipitor for almost one-fifth of the company's revenue, does not intend to go down without a fight. Pfizer is employing unprecedented tactics to hold onto as many Lipitor prescriptions as it can with an aggressive marketing plan and forging deals with insurers, pharmacy benefit managers and patients to meet or beat the price of its generic replacements because even at the lower price, Pfizer has a huge profit margin because of the relatively low cost of materials for Lipitor. Some deals require pharmacies to reject prescriptions for low-cost generics and substitute a discounted name-brand Lipitor while other deals block generic makers from mail-order services that account for an estimated 40 percent of all Lipitor prescriptions. 'Pfizer's tactic of dressing up as a generics company is pulling the rug under the incentive system created to foster the development of generic drugs,' says attorney David A. Balto." I have stock in Pfizer so I won't comment. Don't they make Viagra?

Life is choices and consequences of those choices. When we contemplate and focus upon our problems we magnify them. Eventually they can appear overwhelming to us and bog us down with stress. If we choose to magnify the Lord and keep our focus on Him our problems diminish in our sight and we gain a proper perspective. Choose to rejoice in the Lord today in the face of your problems.
Let all heaven and earth rejoice! Blessed be the name of the Lord. For He alone is worthy of all our praise. Today lift up your voice in rejoicing. May the gladness of Christ be your portion and may He lift you up from all that would try to overtake you. I cried unto the Lord and He heard me; I will rejoice and be glad in Him!

"Sci-fi author Charlie Stross has written a post about how the Big Six book publishing companies have painted themselves into a corner in the rapidly growing ebook industry. Between user-unfriendly DRM and the Amazon juggernaut, they're slowly pushing themselves out of business. Quoting: 'Until 2008, ebooks were a tiny market segment, under 1% and easily overlooked; but in 2009 ebook sales began to rise exponentially, and ebooks now account for over 20% of all fiction sales. In some areas ebooks are up to 40% of the market and rising rapidly. (I am not making that last figure up: I'm speaking from my own sales figures.) And Amazon have got 80% of the ebook retail market. ... the Big Six's pig-headed insistence on DRM on ebooks is handing Amazon a stick with which to beat them harder. DRM on ebooks gives Amazon a great tool for locking ebook customers into the Kindle platform.'"

The settlement demands that Facebook avoid any new deceptive privacy claims, and also that users must give explicit permission for changes to be made to their privacy preferences. In order to solve this, he's trying to buy a large ship he can anchor off the coast of California, in international waters, which he can then turn into a start-up incubator, fostering a 'year-long hack-a-thon.' From the article: 'With a B-1 visa, visitors can freely travel to the United States for meetings, conferences, and even training seminars. B-1 visas are relatively easy to get, and can be valid for as long as 10 years. Blueseed plans to provide regular ferry service between the ship to the United States. While Blueseed residents would need to do their actual work—such as writing code—on the ship, Marty envisions them making regular trips to Silicon Valley to meet with clients, investors, and business partners. With the ship only 12 miles offshore, it should be practical to make a day trip to the mainland and return in the evening. A B-1 visa also permits overnight stays.'"

Some Thoughts For A Tuesday
Lets see what the feast of Trumpets, or the sounding of Shofar, means for us. According to Numbers 10, there were seven functions accomplished by blowing the trumpets.
First of all there was the calling of the assembly. When the priests blew the trumpets, all Israel would gather to the tent meeting, the tabernacle. They would all come to the center place where the glory of the Lord was revealed, that they might hear the Word of the Lord.
Second, they would blow the trumpets of silver for the journeying of the camps. When they saw the glory cloud moving, the priests blew the trumpets and everyone was alerted; they knew it was time to move on. when an alarm was blown the first time, one side of the camp would move, at the second alarm, another side would move. Imagine three million people, with all their flocks and herds, converging into a long line of march and beginning to journey.
Third, the preparation of war was by the blowing of the silver trumpets. When an adversary came against them, the priests would blow the trumpets; and as they sounded the alarm, they would be "remembered before the Lord their God and saved from their enemy" (Numbers 10:9).
The fourth function of the trumpets was for days of gladness. whenever they were to have times of just pure joy- festivals, a wonderful, happy time- they would blow the trumpets and the people would come together. I hope in these days to come we have more times when we blow the trumpets for gladness than we blow them for war. Nevertheless, even though it be for times of conflict, it will be wonderful to have the trumpets of God sound forth.
Recently at my first Blue Man show I got a small glimpse of a visual picture of gladness of a sort. My wife and I were seated five rows back from the stage. The Blue men sent quite a few large balls out into the audience. They were lighted from within and seemed to have some helium in them so they floated when we pushed them into the air. The audience caught on quickly and started in a group participation activity of pushing these balls all over the lower level of the concert hall. As this continued there was laughter bursting out all over the place. then there was confetti and streamers falling from the ceiling. then the blue men started shooting long lines of large toilet paper out into the crowd. As large long silky, white fingers of fabric billowed out over us from both sides of the stage. They wiggled here and there, blowing warm air from their ends, lightly touching the crowd. By now the audience was coming together in a type of joyous celebration in the midst of all that was going on. Walls of separation were coming down and people were enjoying themselves and laughing as they participated in the celebration that the Blue Men had initiated. After it was all over I could see the smiles and a much changed atmosphere. It all left me with a great feeling inside when it was all over...I suppose the Blue Men had made their point..."Don't worry, be happy."
God desires for us to have some days of gladness. When was the last time that you had days of gladness? Have you ever had days of gladness?
Jesus said:
John 10:10
... I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly."
John 20:31
But these are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through his name.
Eternal life is the main thought in the above verses.
There is also an aspect within the name of Jesus Christ whereby we can have abundance of life. I don't think that this means materialism like a tv evangelist
life style would suggest to us.
I think this means a deep satisfaction with such as we have and a gladness as a fruitful result of this deep satisfaction. When we Christians come together as a community of believers, not under some sort of a man made Brand name churchianity, but as one body of believers in Christ Jesus alone; there is a joy and a gladness available to us.
Jesus said:
John 7:38
He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water.
He did not say, "They that are loyal to their brand of church..." He said they that believe in Me!
There is living water within you as a believer in Jesus Christ. Blow your silver trumpet for days of gladness in your life. Set aside the worries and cares of this life for a few days and participate in days of gladness that the Lord would have all of us to enjoy.
I blow the silver trumpet for days of gladness over your life. I proclaim that the rivers of living water shall flow forth to the surface and spill out on to others around you this day! I break the chains of toil and bondage with the blowing of the silver trumpet over you. I blow forth the free flow of the rivers of living water to gush like a broken fire hydrant on to everyone that would come into contact with you during these awesome days of gladness that the Lord has proclaimed. Yes, that the Lord has proclaimed. It is the will of Almighty God this day that you enter into the days of gladness with us.
Be filled with expectancy as the Lord brings you into contact with others who have chosen to enter into these days of gladness with us...

Thoughts For A Monday
And on the day that the tabernacle was reared up the cloud covered the tabernacle, even the tent of the testimony; and at even it was upon the tabernacle as it were the appearance of fire, until morning.
So it was alway; the cloud covered it, and the appearance of fire by night. And whenever the cloud was taken up from over the Tent, then after that the children of Israel journeyed; and in the place where the cloud abode, there the children of Israel encamped..
At the commandment of Jehovah the children of Israel journeted, and at the commandment of Jehovah they remained encamped. And when the cloud tarried upon the tabernacle many days, then the children of Israel kept the charge of Jehovah, and journeyed not.
Numbers 9:15-19Rewording it over and over, this carefully says that they only moved when God moved. When God stood still, they stood still; when God was ready to move, they moved. God set the pace for them. How often we can get so busy trying to survive or just get ahead in life. Concentrating on the things of this life to the exclusion of what truly matters the most. Better it would be to time our selves to God's timing and direction.
Jesus said:
... I am the door: by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved, and shall go in and out, and find pasture...
... My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me:... I am the good shepherd, and know my sheep, and am known of mine...
John Chapter 10Jesus, as our good shepherd, by His Holy Spirit, will lead us and guide us into sustenance of His pastures. But we have to be willing to follow Him by listening for His voice and seeing where He is going. Has Jesus moved and you didn't take notice? Has Jesus spoken and you didn't listen?
Take a moment just now to time yourself to His timing. rest in Him and reestablish fellowship with Him. Regain your awareness of His direction in your own life.
On the first day of the seventh month was to be the sounding of trumpets (Leviticus 23:24). The trumpets have always had a great significanse, yet many Christians have never understood what they meant. If we read just ten verses in numbers 10, we can outline seven functions of the trumpets and show what they really symbolize in the spiritual walk.
And jehovah spake unto Moses, saying, Make thee two trumpets of silver; of beaten work shalt thou make them.
Numbers 10:1-2.
Notice that the trumpets were to be made of beaten silver. These trumpets could not just be molded; they had to be beaten out. when God begins to bring the Living Word, the vessels who sound it forth are not created on an assembly line; they are beaten out by the hand of God. They are a beaten work. In this day of the Living Word, if you have a ministry to sound the trumpet in Zion, you will find that you have reached the ministry through the dealings of God, His beatings upon your life that have molded you and shaped you into a vessel He wants you to be.

This is exactly what record companies don't want to happen and why ultimately they will continue to try and stop it.
"Note: I was writing about this experience for an English course, then realized how applicable it was in regards to SOPA. It might be tough for some to see why SOPA is such a big deal, hope this helps.
As a soldier in Afghanistan I had the opportunity to experience many things that are uncommon to most westerners. My team and I spent several months patrolling a series of remote villages along a seasonal river in order to build a better relationship with the people in the area.
The area was one of the least visited by international forces. On multiple occasions I met nomads that had never seen westerners and some who thought we might be Russians (who had been there in the 1980's). I met very few people in the area that were able to read. Schools were found mainly in cities. It was rare for locals in these villages to travel much, with many individuals spending the entirety of their life in the same village of maybe a hundred people. During my time in these villages I did not once see a woman over the age of around 8 or so. The only source of electricity in the area was through running a power line off of a car or motorcycle battery, which would allow one to charge a cell phone or radio. There were no landlines, no internet access, basically no telecommunications. Hardly anyone can read and so there are very few books or newspapers.
A national telecommunications company had tried to erect a cell tower in the area. The tower lasted only a week or so before local Taliban blew it up. Initially I wasn't sure as to why the Taliban had blown up the tower as they could benefit from use of the tower as well. What I soon came to realize is that what they feared was the knowledge that would come with cell phones.
After spending a considerable amount of time with the locals it became clear that their only source of information, of news, was by word of mouth. A majority of what they knew about the outside world came from travelers, and a significant portion of the travelers through the area were Taliban. The Taliban in the area were able to effectively control the incoming knowledge of the local populace as the only source of new information came from travelers (word of mouth). Additionally, the Taliban set up random checkpoints in and out of the area in order to control both the goods that were coming in and out of the area as well as the people and thus the knowledge.
From an outsider's perspective it was easy to see that the Taliban were controlling and manipulating the local population, to the benefit of the Taliban and detriment of the locals. They were effectively spreading propaganda against the central government and against international forces. The locals, however, had no way of knowing that they were being controlled and manipulated in a way that was detrimental to their own well-being.
This may be an oversimplification, but you don't know what you don't know. If you've never been exposed to a certain material, a certain set of knowledge, then you can know neither its validity nor its significance. It's been said that knowledge will set you free. For those of us that already have a good deal in the way of personal freedom, I'd say that knowledge is what will keep us free.
The United States has been a worldwide leader when it comes to freedom of information. It's my assessment that SOPA is a step backwards, a step that will neither help the general public nor the majority of US businesses. Not everything regarding U.S. copyright bill is bad, but the manner of enforcement and the liability placed on businesses and individuals by this bill could be extremely detrimental.

Tesla Coils Are So Awesome
"In order to study the nature of lighting, the team at Lightning on Demand (LOD) plans to build two, ten-story-tall Tesla coils—the largest ever—that will blast arcs of lightning hundreds of feet in length. LOD founder Greg Leyh said the project aims to reveal details on the initiation process of natural lightning, an area that remains a mystery since smaller generated arcs have more trouble breaking through the air. It is believed that 'laboratory-scale electric arcs start to gain lightning-like abilities once they grow past about 200ft in length,' according to the LOD website, and so the team hopes to build Tesla coils large enough to do this. According to Leyh, 'Understanding how lightning forms [and grows] is the first step towards being able to control where lightning strikes or being able to suppress it completely in certain areas,'"

"[California state leaders] have rallied around a plan to build a 520-mile high-speed rail line from Los Angeles to San Francisco, cutting the trip from a six-hour drive to a train ride of two hours and 38 minutes. And they are doing it in the face of what might seem like insurmountable political and fiscal obstacles. The pro-train constituency has not been derailed by a state report this month that found the cost of the bullet train tripling to $98 billion for a project that would not be finished until 2033, by news that Republicans in Congress are close to eliminating federal high-speed rail financing this year, by opposition from California farmers and landowners upset about tracks tearing through their communities or by questions about how much the state or private businesses will be able to contribute."

Take Stanford courses for free
"Stanford University is offering the online world more of its undergraduate level CS courses. These free courses consist of You Tube videos with computer-marked quizzes and programming assignments. The ball had been started rolling by Sebastian Thrun and Peter Norvig's free online version of their Stanford AI class, for which they hoped to reach an audience in the order of a hundred thousand, a target which they seem to have achieved. As well as the previously announced Machine learning course you can now sign up to any of: Computer Science 101, Software as a Service, Human-Computer Interaction, Natural Language Processing, Game Theory, Probabilistic Graphical Models, Cryptography and Design and Analysis of Algorithms. Almost a complete computer science course and they are adding more. Introductory videos and details are available from each courses website."
FOOTBALL
"As sports nerds settle in today after Thanksgiving dinner for NFL and college football Reed Albergotti writes that there is some footage you will never see as he argues that the most-watched game in the US is probably the least understood. During every NFL game there are cameras hovering over the field, lashed to the goalposts and pointed at the coaches, but you will never see a shot of the entire field and what all 22 players do on every play which is considered proprietary information available only to teams and coaches. For decades, NFL TV broadcasts have relied most heavily on one view: the shot from a sideline camera that follows the progress of the ball. Anyone who wants to analyze the game, however, prefers to see the pulled-back camera angle known as the "All 22." While this shot makes the players look like stick figures, it allows students of the game to see things that are invisible to TV watchers: like what routes the receivers ran, how the defense aligned itself and who made blocks past the line of scrimmage and gives fans a 'bird's eye view' of the game to dissect team strategies, performances, and keys to success. Without the expanded frame, fans often have no idea why many plays turn out the way they do, or if the TV analysts are giving them correct information."

"How much does it cost to make a phone app to tell local temperature and suggest how not to get heatstroke, such as drink water and avoid alcohol? If you're the U.S. Government, it'll cost you a pretty penny. Using MuckRock to file a Freedom of Information Act, Rich Jones of GUN.IO discovered the Department of Labor, Occupational Safety and Health Administration paid $106,467 for the Android version; $96,000 for the iPhone version, and an additional $40,000 for a BlackBerry app that never got distributed."

"30 years ago, Bob Wallace and his partner came up with a product to help hikers, flood victims and others purify water. Wallace, now 88 years old, packs his product by hand in his garage, stores it in his backyard shed and sells it for $6.50. Recently, the DEA has been hassling him because his product uses crystalline iodine. He has been refused a license to purchase the iodine because it can be used in the production of crystal meth, and as a result he is now out of business. A DEA spokesman describes this as 'collateral damage' not resulting from DEA regulations but from the selfish actions of criminals."
"James Fallows writes that you don't have to idealize everything about the Occupy movement to recognize the stoic resolve of the protesters at UC Davis being pepper sprayed as a moral drama that the protesters clearly won. 'The self-control they show, while being assaulted, reminds me of grainy TV footage I saw as a kid, of black civil rights protesters being fire-hosed by Bull Connor's policemen in Alabama. Or of course the Tank Man in Tiananmen Square,' writes Fallows. 'Such images can have tremendous, lasting power.' We can't yet imagine all the effects of the panopticon society we are beginning to live in but one benefit to the modern protest movement is the omnipresence of cameras (video) as police officials, protesters, and nearly all onlookers are recording whatever goes on bringing greater accountability and a reality-test for police claims that they 'had' to use excessive force. 'What's new is that now the perception war occurs simultaneously with the physical struggle. There's almost parity,' writes Andrew Sprung. 'You have a truncheon or gun, I have a camera. You inflict pain, I inflict infamy.'"

"Targeted at stopping SOPA, a petition has been started at the White House's 'We The People' page calling for a Constitutional amendment that would render internet access an inalienable right. Other countries have already adopted such classification for internet access. An excerpt from petition text reads: 'The United States Government is actively attempting to pass legislation to censor Internet. There are numerous campaigns against this Act, but we need to do more than just prevent SOPA from passing. Otherwise, future Acts of similar nature will oppress our rights.' Is calling for a Constitutional amendment to guarantee this too extreme, or is the Internet sufficiently entrenched in modern life that access to it should be guaranteed by the Constitution?"
"More than 250 cameras in Washington D.C. and its suburbs scan license plates in real time. It's a program that's quietly expanded beyond what anyone had imagined even a few years ago. Some jurisdictions store the information in a large networked database; others retain it only in the memory of each individual reader's computer, then delete it after several weeks as new data overwrite it. A George Mason University study last year found that 37 percent of large police agencies in the United States now use license plate reader technology and that a significant number of other agencies planned to have it by the end of 2011. But the survey found that fewer than 30 percent of the agencies using the tool had researched any legal implications. With virtually no public debate, police agencies have begun storing the information from the cameras, building databases that document the travels of millions of vehicles."

It's time protestors got smart and a little bit media savvy. Why not bring large American flags to your protests? There are two benefits to this
- A police officer might think twice about pepper spraying someone holding the flag which could desecrate the flag with the colored pepper spray ink.
- The imagery of a crowd of peaceful flag-waving Americans being dispersed by tear gas and pepper spray will resonate better with the American public This is a Time magazine cover photo waiting to happen.

This is getting out of hand. It's like Congress hasn't even read the Bill of Rights and I know this is probably a beaten horse but as a Law Student I can't help but bring this up.
In the United States there are THREE types of Free Speech (Full Protected, Limited Protection, Unprotected).
Full Protection: The Government CANNOT prohibit or regulate this speech and Americans should not fear CENSOR/ARREST/IMPRISONMENT for expressing his or her thoughts. This is EXPLICITLY POLITICAL SPEECH.
Limited Protection: Government can regulate time, place, and manner. This is only for COMMERCIAL SPEECH, OFFENSIVE SPEECH, and SPEECH OVER THE INTERNET. <-- This is how OWS is being treated. It's like there's some loophole that they think it's commercial speech but it's not -- it's Political.
Unprotected: Dangerous Speech, Fighting words, Speech Incites VIOLENT overthrow of government, defamatory language, Child Pornography. <-- It's not Dangerous unless you're the banks (not physically but financially/ideologically). It doesn't Incite a VIOLENT overthrow (they're all peaceful protestors), it's not defamatory, and it's obviously not child pornography.
Why are they getting away with this? (obviously a rhetorical question).
