The Costa Mesa City Council is on the verge of executing the biggest power grab in our City’s history, and we need your help to stop them.
Last year, the City Council sent layoff notices to nearly half the workforce, and since then, they have wasted hundreds of thousands of dollars in pursuit of outsourcing public services – all to serve their own political agenda.
The public fought back, and a Superior Court judge has even told them to stop their scheme.
But instead of listening to the community and the courts, the City Council wants to rewrite the City’s laws to their advantage so that they can do whatever they want with the City without any checks and balances.
It’s very simple: This Charter proposal is just a continuation of their failed outsourcing scheme.
On Tuesday, the City is hosting a public meeting about their charter proposal.
Join us Tuesday to help us stop the Charter power grab.
There are two ways to create a charter.
There’s the way that good government experts recommend: Form a charter commission of residents, not politicians, and allow ample time for community input and vetting.
And then there’s the rush job that does the bare minimum. And that’s what the Costa Mesa City Council has chosen to do. They have chosen to rush the process, limit participation and restrict community input so that Costa Mesa ends up with the charter they want, a charter that allows them to grab more power so they can do whatever they want with our city and our tax dollars.
We are opposing this charter both because it’s a power grab, and because they’re rushing it through and limiting community involvement.
Come to City Hall Tuesday to tell the City Council to stop their Charter power grab. The meeting starts at 7 p.m. at City Hall, 77 Fair Drive.
See you there!
