Third Person

The Holy Spirit

There is a vast diffrence between the purely theological, and the Biblically practical knowledge on this subject. Our opinion on what ought to happen and what really does happan are often widely divergent.

My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge.
Hosea 4:6

Whole denominations, creeds and doctrines have been built up and are fostered on what some man or men THINK about the Holy Spirit.

Thousands of hungry people are being deprived of what God wishes to give to them and what their souls are hungry for, because those who are in power over them, in their soul~destroying ignorance, profess to be wise.

It is best to go directly back to the Scriptures, forgetting what man has said, taught, or written, and take an unbiased look at the Living Word itself.

We know that each particular crowd uses the Scripture to uphold it's own stand, and some vehemently fight and oppose those who do not see as they do. An old but accurate story of blind men tells us what we all have been like concerning the Holy Spirit.

All of these blind men examined and described an elephant. One said that he was like a wall. He had rubbed the side of the big brute. Another said that he was like a piece of rope, a little raveled at one end. He had grabbed the tail. Another said that he was like a tree trunk. He had gotten a hold of a leg. The one who had grabbed one tusk was sure that the elephant was like a bamboo pole, long and smooth. And the last one ran afoul of the trunk and swore that he was like a twisting, supple snake. And then a great strife and wrangling arose. Each one was certain that he was correct, for he had felt with his own hands and did he not therefor know what he was talking about?

The fact of it was that each one was correct as far as he had experienced, but they all made the mistake of not giving credit to what the other knew to be true. But the man who could really see had a complete knowledge of the elephant's appearance, and to him the other's words and actions seemed silly and comical.

Are not many of us today like those blind men? Each has a part of the truth, is certain that he is right, and that there is no more to be gotten and that all others are wrong. Possibly the worst feature of this professing to know it all is that it hinders that person from seeking and obtaining more. The Holy Spirit only gives us as much as we desire and ask for. If the request is for a little, we receive a little. If we think that this little is all there is to be had, then we never get beyond it.

Ask largely and largely ye shall receive.

Taking a fractional view will never get to the real truth in the matter, but accepting the whole truth as contained in the Scriptures will. It is not wise to attempt to lean toward the interpretation of some one creed or doctrine. So many are speaking of their point of view along different lines, mentioning the Baptist, Methodist, Holiness or pentecostal, or some other. But are not these points of view only man made?

A real Holy Spirit illumination of the Scriptures will give but one view- the one brought by the true revelation thru the power of Almighty God.

And who knows the Holy Spirit better then Jesus Christ?

Jesus speaks of the Holy Spirit as a "He" and not as an "It." When do we control others? Isn't control of others considered witch craft in the Scriptures? So why do men of God think that they can control the person of the Holy Spirit? Why do they think that He will obey them?

We are to follow the Holy Spirit, for it is He that will reveal Christ to us and it is He that convicts anyone of sin. Knowing this, we should get to know Him as He is. We should listen for His still small voice and silence ours.

The emotional frenzy is no substitute for the genuine moving of the Holy Spirit in a meeting. When the Holy Spirit shows up in His power there is a quiet stillness that descends upon the meeting. A deep reverence comes forth for Almighty God. Crying children stop crying and fall asleep. Sobbing can be herd as the Holy Spirit brings conviction of sin to some who are present.

Sure there are charismatic individuals with powerful presence. But even if they convince anyone of accepting Christ through their own efforts, there will be no true conversion. No. Not unless the Holy Spirit has done the convicting.

It is only He that can convict and convince us of our sins. He alone.

Where we come in is the delivery of God's Word. The Holy Spirit moves through the Sword of the Spirit, the Word of God. We deliver the Word and He moves through that Word.

A powerful combination.

Psalm 24:3Who shall ascend into the hill of the LORD? or who shall stand in his holy place?

The Holy Spirit shall...

Allow Him to move as He sees fitting. Stop dictating to Him what He can and what He cannot do in your meeting together. Give Him control. You must decrease and He must increase.

You want power to save others from their sinful lives? You want power to see healings in your meetings? You want the Word of God to go out in power?

Surrender. Give up. Let go.

You have never been why anyone comes through the doors of the church. Your personality has done nothing to change anyone. You are not the Christ...you are not a member of the Godhead.

The Holy Spirit is.

He is an invisible person who can be everywhere all at once. Submarines deep under the artic seas can be visited by Him, while men on the moon can be visited by Him, as men deep in a valley can be visited by Him. All receiving personal attention in the fullness of power that the Holy Spirit has. No spreading out and diminishing of His power or presence. Everyone experiences all that He is when they are recipients of His manifest presence.
And who does He reveal when He comes to us? Himself? Nope. He reveals Jesus the Christ.
And so who do you think the congregation of the Lord will benefit from? Some powerfiul charismatic personality who is exalted? Or the person of the Holy Spirit.
Be still my soul. Wait.
Psalm 46:10Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth.
