From A Christian Perspective This Is "Consensus Orthodoxy" At Work In Our Culture?

PayPal Holdings Inc on Tuesday canceled plans to open a global operations center in Charlotte, North Carolina and invest $3.6 million in the area after the state passed a controversial law targeting lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) citizens.

In a letter on March 29, founders and chief executives of more than a hundred companies, including Apple Inc, Twitter Inc, and Alphabet Inc urged North Carolina Governor Pat McCrory to repeal the legislation.

PayPal is one of the first companies to protest the controversial measure requiring people to use bathrooms or locker rooms in schools and other public facilities that match the gender on their birth certificate rather than their gender identity.

"The new law perpetuates discrimination and it violates the values and principles that are at the core of PayPal's mission and culture," Chief Executive Officer Dan Schulman said in a statement.

PayPal's original plan was to open the operations center in Charlotte and employ 400 skilled workers there.

The Millennials approve of companies with causes so companies go after causes to enhance their position in the market place with them.

Currently the tide of humanity is flowing in directions that are influencing the consensus orthodoxy factor.

But not always the right direction from a Biblical stance, actually violating the values and principles that are at the core of God's Word and Christian culture!

Wonder what would happen if Christians ever decided to abandon doing business with any of the companies that are upset at the morals of Charlotte North Carolina?

Is it now not OK to have your own morals or beliefs?

An old prophet named Isaiah said something over three thousand years ago that comes to mind...

"Woe to those who call evil good and good evil, who put darkness for light and light for darkness, who put bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter."
Isaiah 5:20

But how can any one know what is truly evil or truly good?

 The same old dude said:

"Whether you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you, saying, "This is the way; walk in it."
Isaiah 30:21

For us Christians we turn to the plum line of the Bible for guidance.

Psalm 25:8
Good and upright is the LORD; therefore he instructs sinners in his ways.
Psalm 25:9
He guides the humble in what is right and teaches them his way.
Proverbs 3:6
In all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.
Isaiah 29:24
Those who are wayward in spirit will gain understanding; those who complain will accept instruction."
Isaiah 35:8
And a highway will be there; it will be called the Way of Holiness; it will be for those who walk on that Way. The unclean will not journey on it; wicked fools will not go about on it.

Isaiah 48:17
This is what the LORD says-- your Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel: "I am the LORD your God, who teaches you what is best for you, who directs you in the way you should go.

The voice of conscience, the Spirit of God, and his grace, and to understand the Scriptures of truth, the word of God, is guidance.

Not the consensus orthodoxy of companies, no matter how many companies align together in a cause.

Especially if a cause is diametrically opposed to the Word of God.

In this case one could question if perhaps the law is narrow.

After all there have been cases where the doctor identifies a "gender neutral" baby the wrong sex on birth certificates.

Ambiguous sex organs at birth have caused many a doctor to make the decision as to what sex the child is.

Everything is not always so black and white as we would like it to be.

There are really no easy answers here.

But I think that the law in Charlotte about this issue needs to be revisited to reflect the reality more closely especially in light of the two above links.

Harsh and reactive polarizing stances on both sides of the issue is not the correct answer.

Both sides need to come to the table and research the matter more fully.

Draw your own conclusions...
