You are on a vacation.
You want to get on the internet and you find an open WiFi signal and log on.
You check your bank account and your email and log into some of your own websites or blogs.
You unknowingly are being monitored and every detail is exposed to someone else who now has all your sensitive data.
WiFi signals broadcast your data for anyone with the knowledge and a network sniffing device or freely available sniffing software to monitor what websites you visit and the content you view.
Worse, with a network sniffing device that can be purchased for about $100, unethical hackers can pose as a legitimate hotspot and trick you and your devices into connecting to them.
This is called a "man in the middle" attack and is used to capture your website log in credentials and other data your transmit during a web session.
With your login credentials, someone else can impersonate you online or even steal your identity, and perhaps even access sensitive financial information.
Learn how this happens and how you can protect your login usernames and passwords and other sensitive data with Norton Hotspot Privacy from Symantec.
