Credit Card Fraud Because The Four Digit Code On The Back Of The Card Had Not Been Removed Before Using

My wife and i ate dinner at our favorite Mexican reataurant (Avilas in Costa Mesa CA.) and she paid with her credit card.

A week later she was checking her credit card bill and a mysterious on-line purchase from Macy's department store of $900.00 for a custom baby bag had been purchased and sent to a different address than our own.

My wife was upset and wondered how it happened.

Someone at Avila's could have taken a phone photo of both sides of her card when she had paid at that restaurant.

I pointed out to her that the four digit code on the back of her card was still there for all the world to see.

She wanted to go to the police and track down the address where the unauthorized purchase was delivered.

I told her that was not really going to work because these scammers watch for delivery through UPS tracking and as soon as the package gets dropped off at the address they walk up and take it.

Usually the drop off address is an empty house or apartment where no one is actually living at the time or even if it were occupied the people inside would be innocent.

She was adamant that where it got delivered would be the culprit.

That is not always the case!
