Got an email this morning from an angry white male desiring to increase racial tensions.
But the real problem and the most revealing thing is that he is a Christian man.
I would never expect this from any Christian.
Why is this a problem?
My answer:
Matthew 5:9
Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God.
Sending the kind of an email that he is sending around and asking others to do likewise is not peace making in the least.
It polarizes people and increases racial tensions, not exactly peacemaking.
The children of God do not do this kind of a thing because it does not make for peace.
The true motivating force behind it is evil not Christ therefore it can not be Christian.
It is toxic and stinks to high heaven.
Is that what we are called to?
Are we called to make people angry at each other?
Are we called to increase racial tensions?
Are we called to heighten racial tensions?
Are we called to pit neighbor against neighbor?
Apparently this angry Christian white male thinks so.
Thank God he is not in a pulpit somewhere!
What does our Lord Jesus Christ say?
Matthew 5:44
But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you;
Matthew 5:46
For if ye love them which love you, what reward have ye? do not even the publicans the same?
Matthew 19:19
Honour thy father and thy mother: and, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.
Matthew 22:39
And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.
Matthew 24:12
And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold.
The love of many shall wax cold.
Luke 6:27
But I say unto you which hear, Love your enemies, do good to them which hate you,
Luke 6:32
For if ye love them which love you, what thank have ye? for sinners also love those that love them.
Luke 6:35
But love ye your enemies, and do good, and lend, hoping for nothing again; and your reward shall be great, and ye shall be the children of the Highest: for he is kind unto the unthankful and to the evil.
Do I want This to be said of me.
John 5:42But I know you, that ye have not the love of God in you.
That email goes directly against the admonition of scripture.
There can be no scriptural defending the action of sending it around to others.
Acts 5:29
Then Peter and the other apostles answered and said, We ought to obey God rather than men.
Jesus said:
My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me:
To follow Jesus is to love your neighbor. Not send around harmful toxic emails.
Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamour, and evil speaking, be put away from you, with all malice:
Looking diligently lest any man fail of the grace of God; lest any root of bitterness springing up trouble you, and thereby many be defiled;
I think that this toxic email falls under the 'bitter root' label and spreading it through email is intended to spread it around to infect and defile many others.
Therefore this man who sent it to me has failed 'of the grace of God.'
It certainly is not the heart of a man of God or of Jesus Christ...
